At TAFE SA, over the past six years, our understanding of ‘Sovereign Capability’ has gained currency and meaning in the context of building skills for particular Naval Shipbuilding Projects. However, across the country, the term ‘Sovereign Capability’ is now being used more widely beyond Defence and Defence Industry to refer to a range of industrial capabilities that Australia is likely to need in the future to ensure the safety, health and resilience of our people, industries and infrastructure.
This presentation will:
- Examine global definitions and approaches to sovereign capability and supply chain resilience.
- Explore particular industrial vulnerabilities and supply chain weaknesses in Australia and Internationally.
- Ask how a strategy of building Australia’s ‘Sovereign Skilling Capability’ with TAFE at the Heart could reduce those vulnerabilities and help build resilient supply chains.
- Ask where vocational education, TAFE at the Heart, and TAFE Centres of Excellence could make the greatest contributions to Australia’s security, sustainability and resilience.
- Point to how a Centre of Excellence in Sovereign Capability could lead thinking on Sovereign Skilling Capability Strategies and Priorities across the TAFE Network and Centres of Excellence.
